Mortgages with CCJ’s

If you have CCJ’s (County Court Judgements for debt) against your name, then it can prove more difficult to obtain a mortgage from a mainstream lender. CCJ’s can be the result of a difficult financial situation such as being made unemployed, or frustratingly due to a trivial matter of overlooking to pay a small amount. Whatever the reason or amount owed, the outcome will be the same regarding your credit history. A mortgage lender will consider that you have been previously unable to meet the terms of a repayment schedule and that you pose a high risk to them as a result.

Unfortunately, the CCJ will remain on your credit file for six years regardless of whether the debt has been cleared. If you did clear the debt over a year ago, then this is marked on your credit record and will no doubt improve your chances of obtaining a mortgage. (Check out our free credit check service) If you have still to pay the debt or have paid it within the past year, then you may still have some mortgage options available to you.

At L&C, our advisers can help run through your options – with no fee charged for our expert opinion.
