Online Mortgage Quotes
The internet has made it easier to search for and compare mortgages – and these days you can even get a mortgage quote online.
A mortgage quote will tell you the monthly cost of the mortgage, the interest rate and other costs such as an arrangement fee. You don’t have to pay for a mortgage quote and you might want to get quotes for several different types of mortgage to help you make a decision.
You can get an online mortgage quote direct from a lender’s website, or you can visit the website of a mortgage broker. The lender will only give details of its own range of mortgages. A broker, on the other hand, will search the market for the best deals. Some, but not all, have the facility for you to get a quote there and then either by selecting a product from a best buy table or using a search wizard. Others require you to complete a form and submit it to them before they can supply you with a quote.
So how do you get a mortgage quote? The borrower has to complete an online form, which includes details of the value of the property they wish to buy, how much they want to borrow and the length and type of the loan.
If you know what you’re doing, it’s fairly straightforward. But do you know whether you want a fixed-rate or a tracker mortgage? What about an interest-only loan? Is it better than a repayment mortgage? And are you sure you want to take out a loan for 25 years? The answers can make a big difference to the monthly cost of the mortgage – and your eligibility for a loan.
Some websites explain the form as you go along, but it helps if you have done some research and understand something about the various mortgage options before you ask for a mortgage quote.
It also helps if you are familiar with the internet and have previously searched for a financial product or quote online.
A mortgage is a big financial commitment. If you don’t feel confident about getting a mortgage quote online, you should contact a broker who can take you through the process step by step and help you with some of the form filling.
But if you are an experienced borrower and you know exactly what you want, a mortgage quote can be a useful way to pick out the best deal.
And remember, you don’t have to take out the mortgage just because you have asked for a mortgage quote. You can change your mind at the click of a mouse.
