Meet some of our advisers

Whether you are a fully qualified financial adviser, a recent graduate of a bachelors degree or a Masters, looking for work after a gap year, or are experienced in a different field and looking for a career change, then L&C might be able to offer you a challenging and rewarding position as a mortgage adviser.

Our staff come from a whole hosts of backgrounds — not necessarily financial.  Meet some of our mortgage advisers to help you decide whether you might like to join them.

0Anita Rowden, 41, joined L&C as a temp in 1998.  She moved on to preparing best buy tables for the national press before becoming a mortgage adviser in 1999.  Prior to that Anita, who was born and raised in Zimbabwe, spent 12 years living overseas working for international organisations such as the American Embassy and the World Health Organisation.

I find my role here really rewarding because I feel that I am helping people and I enjoy the variety of speaking to different members of the public each day.  I also value the support that management give to the staff.  As I’m far from home, I can almost say that L&C are like a family to me!

0David Brown, 43, worked for Sainsburys for 20 years, becoming a deputy store manager before deciding to go to work for B&Q.  However, after a year David realised that retail wasn’t the area that he wanted to be in any more and that he needed a fresh challenge.  He heard about L&C through friends and decided to contact the company.  He has now been a mortgage adviser since 2002.

I have no regrets about coming to L&C.  It’s the best thing I’ve ever done.  I wish I’d begun this when I was 20.  I really like helping the public because I’ve a background in dealing with people.  Within this environment — unlike retail —people are grateful for your efforts.  It proves you don’t have to have a financial background to be a success at L&C.  It was a real culture shock to start studying again aged 39 for my Cemap exams.  It meant that I had to be really committed from the start—which I was.

0Mark McLeod, 23, did a degree in Business Finance before going on to study for a Masters in Finance & Investment.  Originally from Carlisle, Mark decided to relocate to Bath having been accepted onto the adviser training programme at L&C in 2005.  Mark found accommodation and really likes living in Bath.

I was attracted to L&C because I knew I wouldn’t be paid just a basic salary, but a salary that reflected my efforts.  If you do well here, it’s recognised and you are rewarded for the contribution that you make.

0Jon Quantrill, 41, did a degree in Geology and went on to work for 9 years in the oil industry.  After being made redundant, Jon decided to study for a MSc in Computing.  In 2001, Jon, originally from Bristol, saw a job vacancy for sales support at L&C advertised in a local paper. Within 4 months, Jon became a mortgage adviser.

Having worked in the oil industry for a number of years, as my only job after university, I was a little concerned about making the change to a completely different field of work.  However, I found both the nature of the job, the relaxed working environment and the friendly people meant that the transition was a painless and enjoyable one.

 Rebecaa
Rebecca Owen, 22, studied for a degree in Economics with Spanish, during which she spent a year living in Spain.  After graduating in 2006, she decided to relocate from Newcastle to begin a career at L&C as a mortgage adviser.  Rebecca found the relocation smooth-running because there were others in her team in the same boat, plus she found that L&C staff were helpful suggesting places to live.  Within 2 weeks, Rebecca had found somewhere to live in central Bath, within walking distance from work.

I think Bath is a lovely place and I really like working at L&C.  The training was thorough and you get help with achieving the Cemap qualifications.  There’s a work hard, play hard ethos here which I like and the people are really nice.  The pace is fast moving and it’s great that you progress so quickly. I enjoy building relationships with clients and it’s satisfying when you find a really good deal for them.
