what do we think about..
taking a gap year after university before joining us?
As an employer, L&C takes a positive view of gap year graduates, particularly if you can demonstrate to us that your experience has taught you something whether personally or professionally. We do not have an annual period for recruitment but often recruit for set periods throughout the year, which means that you won’t have to time your return around rigid schedules. You can simply contact us when you are ready to begin job hunting.

allowing work experience people to join us?
At L&C, we welcome young people to join us for work experience particularly if they are interested in pursuing a career either at L&C or in the financial sector. When someone on work experience comes to L&C we plan a programme of relevant activities.
If you are interested in work experience at L&C, please contact the recruitment department on 01225 343424.
summer holiday work, temp work, casual work etc?
L&C is a busy place and there are lots of opportunities for summer holiday work, temp work and casual work in our administration departments. Whether you are a student looking for work during out of term times, or someone looking for a couple of hours casually per week, we may have a vacancy for you.
Some of our longest serving staff began L&C as casual administrative temps and went on to become fully qualified mortgage advisers.

employing a school leaver/first jobber?
L&C has by necessity a strong administrative backbone and as a result there are many jobs available to suit school leavers and first jobbers. If you are committed to learning and show a keen interest in your work then it is possible to progress through the company fairly rapidly.
For example, one of our mortgage advisers, Ryan Boyd, 21, started work at L&C on our telephone team. Within 6 months, he was working in the applications team and within approximately 3 months was promoted to case manager. He spent a year as a case manager, providing customer support, and during which time he passed Cemap 1. He then became a mortgage adviser, and has since passed Cemap 2. “I find my new role as mortgage adviser demanding yet enjoyable at the same time.”

coming to work for L&C from a completely different background?
If you look through some of the staff profiles on our website (what do our staff say about L&C?, meet some of our advisers) you will see that not all our employees come from a financial background. It’s not necessary to come to us – even for a mortgage adviser role – as a fully qualified financial adviser because we provide all the training required. Whilst industry related experience always helps, if you have transferable skills or knowledge gained in another sector, then we may be able to offer you a role at L&C.

employing graduates?
We actively seek and employ graduates to work at L&C, particularly as mortgage advisers. This is because we find that the challenge that we offer tends to suit graduates. Graduates (as are all our mortgage advisers) get all the training they require from scratch, are put into a team of other new staff all in the same situation with a supervisor to help them, are given support from management and staff if relocating, and are rewarded for the personal effort that they put in - which for a young person starting out on the career ladder is an exciting prospect, particularly given that there are limits to the amount they can earn if successful.
